University City Walking Tour

The itinerary and focus of this walk will be "the most historic areas of University City", highlighting the architecturally glorious blocks of Woodland Terrace, Hamilton Terrace, 42nd Street and Regent Square. There will be a brief foray into Woodlands Cemetery with it's outstanding example of Federal-style Woodlands Manor (c.1797) and final resting places of notable Civil War Generals, politicians, industrialists, artists Rembrandt Peale and Thomas Eakins, the distinguished Drexel family, Dr. Samuel Gross, among others. This walking tour will also visit Clark Park and its statue of Charles Dickens.

This tour will begin at 10:30am, meeting at the southwest corner of 40th and Spruce Streets. The tour is sponsored by UCD. Tickets are free, but very limited. To reserve your ticket, please contact Mark Silber at buddmar@mail.com or (215) 387-4213.

There will be a community meeting held at People's Emergency Center to discuss the upcoming streetscape improvements for Lancaster Avenue between 38th and 52nd Streets.

New signs, lighting, sidewalks, and street trees are proposed. The purpose of this meeting is to provide residents and business owners that use Lancaster Avenue with the opportunity to discuss the details of the project. Representatives from Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell's office, the City of Philadelphia's Commerce Department and the landscape architectural firm will be present.
