The urban swath of the Delaware River that hugs Philadelphia's eastern edge supports a remarkable amount of life. The river's health, while far from pristine, has improved greatly courtesy of the Clean Water Act, the death of many polluting industries, and the increased efforts of citizens and the city to keep the water clean.
Reporter Kellie Patrick and artist Julie Donofrio spent two weeks researching this project. Move your mouse over the photos to learn about some of the many creatures and plants that live at least part of the year in, near or under the Delaware, between Oregon and Allegheny.
