The Philadelphia Daily News reported in January 2008 that Comcast-Spectacor has preliminary plans to develop a multi-million dollar entertainment complex within the Sports District in South Philadelphia that currently houses facilities for the Eagles, Flyers, 76ers, and Phillies. With its abundance of existing parking lots and large-scale commercial uses, some say that this could be a logical location for a slots casino. One version of the Comcast proposal includes the demolition of the Wachovia Spectrum. The property is within the 10-mile exclusionary zone created to protect Chester Downs.
