Constructed in 1677, this church is the oldest in Pennsylvania and the most important monument of the earliest European settlement in the Delaware Valley. The I-95 ramp now physically separates it from the community, but it is still visited frequently by tourists and locals. Though built by Swedish settlers, its architectural influences are English. It is protected under the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places as a symbol of the success of the early settlers in establishing a life in William Penn’s colony, where religious tolerance was law.
