The Barbary

The Barbary

Matt barbary_0.jpg
Promoting itself as one of the oldest active music venues in Philadelphia, the Barbary has been a breeding ground for up-and-coming rock musicians since 1969. Located at the edge of Fishtown on a street dominated by industrial rubble, the bar has always been a haven for those left-of-center seeking live music and cheap food. Though the Barbary closed its doors for ten years, it reopened in June 2004 under new ownership. Its patriotic window work can be seen from Delaware Avenue, and its distinctive signage cannot be missed.
