Sammy’s BBQ Site

Though the Carolina- inspired restaurant closed it doors in November 2004, the building and colorful sign of a large pig remains a place-marker for cars driving past. The site is owned by Rick Blatstein, a local developer best known as a concessionaire at Philadelphia International Airport. During his ownership, the property has gone through many iterations, such as Philly Rock on the River and Club Maui, formerly the largest nightclub in Philadelphia. Maui was forced to close after numerous incidents including shootings, and despite its prime riverfront access, no business has succeeded on this site since. The only sign of activity on the site is an announcement for a zoning board meeting regarding the site dated August 2005 that remains on one of its walls.
