The Independence Seaport Museum, then known as the Port of History Museum, opened its current building in 1978 as part of the newly constructed Penn’s Landing public waterfront space. Beyond its own exhibits, it conducts tours of national historic landmarks such as the Spanish-American War cruiser Olympia and the World War Two-era submarine USS Becuna. It also hosts Workshop on the Water, which hosts exhibits and teaches courses on boat building and restoration. The Museum building contains more than 110,000 square feet of space over four floors, including a 530-seat concert hall. It welcomed its one-millionth visitor since moving to Penn’s Landing in 2004.
