Located on Columbus Boulevard just north of Spring Garden Street, Waterfront Square represents the first of many proposed skyscraper developments underway along the Central Delaware. The plan for this 9.5-acre gated community, developed by local firms Bower Lewis Thrower and Wallace Roberts and Todd, calls for five condominium towers that vary from 21 to 37 stories in height. Though just completed this year, the first two towers were already sold out by 2004, and most condos in the third and fourth towers are already claimed before construction has even begun. Amenities include an outdoor walkway, riverfront deck, courtyard gardens, spa and health club, all only accessible by condo residents. The site, vacant since the Riverfront Restaurant and Dinner Theater closed in 1993, will house 950 units when all five buildings are complete. The complex was given the William Penn Award of Excellence for Best Architectural Design in 2005.
