This meat company is named after its original owner, who delivered meats by horse-drawn carriages through the cobblestone streets of Old City and Northern Liberties along Second Street. Almost 100 years later, Wells Meats is Philadelphia’s premier wholesale food purveyor and one of the lone distribution uses of this magnitude still thriving along the Central Delaware. Wells attributes its success to the Center City restaurant boom that began in the 1970s, and providing the meat for all state dinners at the White House, thus “feeding the leaders of almost every nation in the world.”
